Keep on truckin'

Well it's been 5 weeks, and I am happy to report that I still do not smoke, and I still am running! In fact I just walked in the door from a run.

I found a trail that goes around the back of my neighborhood. It's really pretty, there are creeks, and trees. There are a lot of other people out there running and biking too!
I have always been intimidated by other runners judging me...I would think they would say "Eww!!! look at her form it's awful!!!" or "Oh god!! Look at the fat butt trying to rum!" I have come to find that not to be the case at all. They are all very friendly. I think there is this runners code that you are supposed to wave or smile at the other runners... they all do it, even the bicyclers. So either they are legitimately friendly or they are saying "Eww, look at the fat butt" with a smile.

I decided to sign up for the Long Beach 5k next month. It's October 12th, down by the Aquarium of The Pacific. It's is a really flat and pretty course...flat being the key word there. It's actually called the Long Beach Marathon. They offer a full marathon (26.2 miles), a half marathon (13.1 miles) and the 5K (3.1 miles). Stay tuned though...because I am going to do the Surf City Half Marathon on February 1st....just don't think I will be ready for 13.1 miles by next month.

ughh

I've been running for a little over 2 weeks now. I've been eating healthy. I got on the scale yesterday and gained 1 pound...WTF!!!!
I know...I know... the whole muscle weighs more than fat blah blah blah...It was pretty discouraging.
One of my co workers told me that if I run in the morning before I eat anything, I'll burn more fat because I don't have any carbs in my system to burn...I google'd it...he seems to be right. ]
One problem...The days that I go running I work at 6am. This morning I attempted to wake up at 4:15 to go for my run before work...I failed :( I'm thinking I am going to change my running days to my days off...I just wasn't meant to getting up that early; it's one of the reasons I didn't stay in the military.
Now I will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays before I eat.
I start week 3 of my program this week...it's getting harder, but I look forward to the challenge instead of dread it.

Some good news....Still not smoking!

Keep on Truckin'

Ok So it has officially been 11 days since I quit smoking.... and I am very proud to report I have not cheated once! I have also been able to stop my Everlasting Gobstopper habit. My teeth are grateful for that!

I started week 2 of my C25K this week. It was a tiny bit more difficult but not bad. I got for day 2 of week 2 today. From now on I am going to type 2:3 or 4:2... 2:3 would stand for week 2 day 3 and 4:2 week 4 day 2.....get it? good!

Ok My new gadget.... I got a Garmin 405!!! A pretty big investment into a fairly new hobby, but once I saw I couldn't help myself.
you"re all asking... what the heck is a Garmin 405??? Well I'll tell you.... It's a GPS enabled stop watch, heart Rate monitor, distance tracker, and so much more! I wear it on my run outside, press start and go. As I am jogging I can keep track of how far I've gone, the time, the pace I am going, my heart rate, and if I get lost it will direct me back to where I started. Once I get home it connects to my computer wirelessly and syncs my run to the Garmin training website. There I can see and actual map of where I went, a graph of my HR and time charts. It even keeps track of my elevation! I LOVE gadgets, so when I saw this I HAD to have it!
Check out my 1st run with my garmin...keep in mind this C25K is run/walk to build endurance...so you can really see it in my heart rate graph.

Hi!

Well hello...
I decided to start this blog because I was so inspired by other bloggers reaching their goals.
so here goes nothing...

My Current Goals
#1  Quit smoking... once and for all!
#2  Run a 1/2 Marathon by 2/1/09

I have a method to my madness here...
I figure that if I picked a hobby that would be hindered my smoking I might actually stick to it this time.

So far it has been 7 days no smoking... not too shabby.  I have although developed an addiction to Everlasting Gobstoppers.

I'm sure My teeth will forgive me when they realize it's for the greater good of the body.

To get my running off to a uhh... running start I am doing the Couch to 5k plan (also referred to
C25K by the "in" people) It's a 9 week program...Google it if you are interested.
I just finished Week one and am feeling great!

Tomorrow I start week 2 which is a little more difficult.

Check back in a day...I"ll let you know how week 2 is going and I'll tell you all about my newest
Gadget to help me achieve my goals. Time to catch some ZZzzZZZzzzZZZZzzzzz
